INDONESIAN CULINARY TEAM TAKES GOLD AGAIN
At WACS Global Chefs Challenge in Hong Kong

Bali, 12 May 2009… A victory again for Indonesia. Bali Culinary Professional’s winning cuisine team has hit gold as team Chef I Wayan Wicaya together with Junior Chef Alexander Tanuhardja from Bulgari Bali represented Indonesia at competition stage of the World Association of Chefs Society (WACS) Global Chef’s Challenge. The pair cooked up a gold medal winning storm and achieved the highest points in the Hong Kong International Culinary Classic Final of the event held in Hong Kong. The Indonesian pair beat International award winning teams from Singapore, coming in second and Hong Kong coming in third.

In a hotly contested event between Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, The Philippines & the host Hong Kong, the Global Chef Asian Final presented 5 hours of Live Hot Cooking where a team of two have created a menu from a black box of ingredients for 12 persons consisting of appetizer, fish course from Norwegian Salmon, a main course of beef and a dessert. The team will represent Asia now at the WACS World Congress in Chile / South America, where the Global Chef Final will take place in January 2010.

“The cook-off was a proper, seven hour competition with serious time pressures. He received a list of ingredients with which he needed to create a four course menu for eight people. Alex is junior chef with a very promising future and was an integral part of Wicaya’s success,” comments team leader chef Andrew Skinner, Executive Chef of the Bulgari Bali, where he supervised training and preparation at the Bulgari Bali.

Bali Culinary Professionals committee member who accompanied the team to Hong Kong, Stefan Mueller F&B Director from Nikko Bali Resort and Spa said it’s an outstanding result for the team, particularly as it follows several other competition successes this year. The team made an impression to the judges with their food, solid team work, coordination and workflow in the kitchen, as well their high standard of Hygiene and Sanitation throughout the day.

Hong Kong International Culinary Classic (HKICC) 2009 exhibits in conjunction with HOFEX 2009 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre runs from 6th – 9th May 2009.
