BALI CULINARY PROFESSIONALS TAKE PART IN THE 2007 FOOD & HOTEL INDONESIA EXHIBITION

Bali Culinary Professionals (BCP) as the official WACS member representing Indonesia was invited to attend The Food & Hotel Indonesia, in accordance to their goal of exposing and promoting Balinese cuisine.

Here, the participants met officials and business people from various countries, initiate contacts, expanding their network, exchange information and expanding business into the international markets. BCP members who attended among them were Jeremy Cooper, Rick Bolt, Markus Krickelberg, Stefan Mueller and Made Putra, with Stefan Mueller acting as judge for the chef’s cooking competition.

The Food & Hotel Indonesia which was held from 28-31 March 2007 at the Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran is the leading show for Indonesia’s food, beverage and hospitality sectors. In this event, food industry professionals from all over Indonesia and other countries meet to promote their businesses and learn about the latest developments in food and beverages, hotel equipment and services, as well as the opportunity to participate in the business forum and competitions for international food industry professionals. It is widely recognized as the biggest meeting point of the food industry, where professionals and business people, representatives and experts from various sectors, from state and local government officials to delegations from Asia, Europe, and other countries meet.

Products on display at the exhibition included many new-to-market food, beverages, wine and beer products as well as catering and hotel equipment suppliers. There were International pavilions from Australia, France, India, Korea, Peru, Portugal and USA as well as some of Indonesia’s leading distributors and agents. The response was fantastic with a high number of visitors attending the show. Bali was well represented through local suppliers exhibiting and attended by many of the Bali Culinary Professionals members.

Aside from the exhibition, the Jakarta Salon Culinaire 2007 chef’s cooking competition was held during the Food & Hotel Indonesia 2007. The competition displayed an increase to the number of categories competing to 18 with new categories of fusion sushi, dim sum, poultry student challenge and mini rijstafel as well as the existing classes from artistic show pieces, pastry, cold and live cooking competitions. The number of entries for each category past previous records for this competition being held.

“This year’s show was 37% larger than the show in 2005. This reflects the current strength of Indonesia’s food, hotel and retail industry and the degree of interest worldwide,” says Markus, vice President of Bali Culinary Professionals

In conjunction with the Food Hotel Jakarta 2007, the Food, Hotel & Tourism Bali 2008 will be held 7-9 February at the Bali International Convention Centre, Nusa Dua inviting trade and business visitors from throughout Indonesia.
